Terroir

Located at 2,000 feet in the foothills of the Trinity Alps, Canyon Creek Family Farms is perched above the confluence of Gwin Gulch and Canyon Creek. Surrounded by hundreds of thousands of acres of designated wilderness, Canyon Creek enjoys a unique sub-alpine microclimate shaped by pristine mountain air, abundant snowmelt waters, and cool canyon breezes that settle in each evening.

The farm sits on the alluvial fan of Gwin Gulch, which originates on the backside of Weaver Bally. Over generations, water moving through the canyon has shaped the distinctive soils of the Canyon Creek area, carrying placer deposits down from the upper watershed and through the geology of the Canyon Creek batholith. This combination of elevation, climate, alpine water, and native mountain soil lends its unique characteristics to our flower and resin.

Farming Practices

Our farming practices reflect our love for this land. Sun+Earth Certified, our plants are grown in-ground, in native soil, using organic inputs and compost teas. We grow full-term, sungrown flower, working with the natural rhythms of the mountain seasons and letting our environment shape the crop. In addition to cannabis, we grow vegetables, flowers, and herbs for our family, crew and community, and make weekly donations to the Community Food Pantry in season.

Michael and Lorien at Canyon Creek

Family

Canyon Creek Family Farms is a legacy, family-owned and operated farm rooted in Trinity County. Michael Curran was born and raised in Canyon Creek and has been growing cannabis here without missing a season since 1995. With a degree in Environmental Studies, Michael brings both a lifelong familiarity with the land and a deep understanding of the surrounding environment. That connection is reflected in the way he farms and in the quality of flower produced on the family homestead.

Lorien is a lifelong organic gardener, creative, and legacy distributor who began cultivating cannabis in Trinity County in 2006. Together, Michael and Lorien bring more than 50 years of combined cultivation experience to Canyon Creek, carrying forward the tradition that has defined the Emerald Triangle for generations.

Collaborations

We are honored to work with some of the best in the industry.

Recognition

California State Fair. @calcannaawards

The quality of Canyon Creek-grown flower and resin has been recognized at the highest levels of California cannabis competition. Our farm has contributed to multiple award-winning products, including a 2025 California State Fair Golden Bear for concentrates, Gold and Silver medals for solventless rosin, and Gold for sum cannabinoids in sungrown flower in 2026.

For us, recognition is a reflection of the work rather than the reason for it. After decades of farming in the canyon, we take pride in seeing what this land can produce: cannabis sun-grown with love, patience, and attention to craft that have defined our family farm from the beginning.
